A DIY nightstand can be a good idea if you have extra room or you need to store more items. With some basic plans, you can build a functional storage system for under your mattress. Magnetic locks can be installed on either one or both of the compartments. After you have completed the project you can make it more personal by adding foam inserts to the top and bottom compartments.

Build a DIY nightstand with a drawer and a hidden compartment

First, cut the onex12 boards to make a DIY nightstand. You should use the same measurements for your side panels as they should be tightly fitted together. To make sure your drawers will be square, mark the tenon locations on both sides of the boards. Next, glue all the pieces together and secure them with finish nails.

Ikea furniture is also a great option for creating a DIY nightstand. These furniture are flexible and easy to customize. You can also use these pieces for other purposes, such as books, and other items. These pieces are also known to be quite affordable, and you can easily replicate them if you have enough wood. You can also make them unique and custom-designed to fit your room's decor.

Install a deadbolt lock

Hidden compartment nightstands are a type bedside table with two drawers. They are designed for bedroom security. This nightstand is safe for valuables as it conceals two compartments beneath and above its main drawer. Each compartment offers a different access route to the compartment and both can be locked when closed. The nightstand is invisible from the exterior and has the appearance of a standard nightstand.

To install a magnet lock, drill a small opening in the top compartment or bottom drawer of your nightstand. Once it is drilled, you should place the magnetic lock in the sweet spot on the compartment's face. To open the drawer, push the magnet with the other magnet on the opposite side. For hidden magnetic locks, you can either buy one at a hardware shop or order it online. This step can be done at your own discretion.

Foam inserts can be added to the top and/or lower compartments

You can add 2 storage compartments to your nightstand design if you need more storage. The dimensions of the upper compartment are 13" x 2", and the bottom is 13 x 2.5". Both compartments have felt-lined internals. Hidden compartment nightstand plans include a two-step accessibility system. Additional storage space can be created by adding foam inserts to either the top of bottom drawers.

How To

How to join wood with no nails

Woodworking is a popular hobby. It's fun and relaxing because you can use your hands to make something useful from wood. Sometimes you may want to join two pieces together of wood without using nails. This article will explain how to do this so that your woodwork projects stay beautiful.

Before joining the pieces of wood together, you will need to first trim any edges. You don't want to leave sharp corners that could cause problems later on down the road. Now it's time to start glueing your boards together.

If you are working on hardwood, you should only use glue on one side. If you are using softwoods such pine or cedar, glue should only be applied to one side. Press the boards down until the glue is fully incorporated. After applying the glue, let dry the boards before proceeding to the next stage.

After you have glued the boards together, drill holes in the joints where you intend to place screws. These holes will differ depending on the type and size of screw you are using. For example, if you intend to use 1/2-inch wood screws, you need to drill a hole that is at most 3/4 inches deep.

After drilling the holes, you can drive the screws into your board's backside. You should be careful not to touch the board's front surface. This could cause damage. Try to not hit the ends of the screws when driving the screws. This will prevent the wood from splitting.

After your project is completed, you will need to protect it from the weather. You can either cover the entire furniture or just the top. It doesn't matter what method you use, you want something that will last many years. Oil-based varnishes are, among others, polyurethanes shellac, laquer, and other oil-based products.

These products can be found in most home improvement shops. Be sure to choose the right one for your project. Also, remember that some finishes are toxic and should never be used indoors. Wear protective gear whenever you are handling them.
