How To

How to make wood joint

This tutorial will show you how to join two pieces of wood together. The "pocket hole joint" is a method whereby we drill holes into the wood and glue them together. If your wood has a straight grain, smooth surface, you can use this method. You may want to consider other methods, such as dowel joining. These are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. You will need to measure and mark the exact location of your pocket hole joint. Then drill 3/4 inch deep holes into the ends of each piece of wood using a jig saw or handheld drilling machine.
  2. Sand Smooth. Sanding the edges of the wood will help to prevent the joint from splitting later.
  3. Glue the two sides of the wood together. Apply glue to both ends of the wood. Allow it to sit for approximately 5 minutes before you clamp the pieces together.
  4. Clamp the Pieces Together. After the glue has dried properly, clamp the pieces together to make sure they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. After the glue dries, trim any excess wood around your joint.

Be sure to leave enough space between each piece so that they can be turned inside-out.
