How To

How to make wood joints

This tutorial will show you how to join two pieces of wood together. We will use the pocket hole joint, which is drilling holes in the wood to join them. This works well if the wood is straight and smooth. You might consider dowel joinery if your wood isn’t straight or flat. Here are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. To start, measure and mark where you want to put the pocket hole joint. Next, drill 3/4 inch holes in each end of each piece using a handheld drilling machine or jigsaw.
  2. Sand Smooth. You can sand the edges of the wood to ensure that it doesn't split.
  3. Glue the two sides of the wood together. Apply glue to both sides of the wood. Allow the wood to rest for five minutes before clamping it together.
  4. Fix the Pieces together. Once the glue has dried, clamp the pieces together so they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. After the glue dries, trim any excess wood around your joint.

Make sure to leave enough room between the pieces so that you can turn them inside and out.
